02:17 pm: Stop This Scammer
There is a breed of scum floating around that is lower than low.
After my mother's accident, we received a bill from a California collection agency,

claiming she had an outstanding bill in connection with her accident.
Long story short, the doctor that she supposedly owed had nothing to do with the case, the billing department of the hospital had never heard of the collection agency, and we had complete proof that there were NO outstanding bills for ANYTHING.
The amount they claimed she "owed" was the sort of thing that was just small enough (in the $300. range) that someone trying to settle everything would just pay without thinking. Which is what the scammers were counting on.
I KNEW it had to be a scam and contacted the sheriff's office. They started a case file and told me to send the place a letter telling them that they were mistaken and that any further letters would be considered harassment.

Two months later, the "agency" has not only sent another letter, claiming a DIFFERENT doctor is owed money, but they also called on the phone and tried to scam that way, too.

I've notified the sheriff's office and will go through the numbers, but the sad fact is that this scum probably won't be stopped or even slowed.

At least I can warn others that this kind of diseased mind is out there.
