: A New Book
This may be "jumping the gun" a little, but I think the project is far enough along to whet the appetites of potential readers. What am I talking about? A new book on grapes. Not on growing them, on USING them.
The Bountiful Grape (working title) is now in the editing stages and if all goes reasonably well, just might be out by the end of the year. That's not set in stone, but it's a good chance, at least.
It started as a rather elaborate chapter on grape juice in The Grape Grower. The chapter included a long list of varieties and evaluations of them for juice, discussion of all possible ways to make and preserve juice, and a lot of details. It wouldn't fit the book, so it was set aside and a lot of new material was added to make it into a book in it's own right.
Not just a recipe book, it contains ways to use EVERYTHING the vine produces, from green shoots and leaves, to unripe fruit, to the bark, and even the sap. Basic winemaking is included, of course, but also vinegar making, grape molasses, and several other ways you never thought you could use a grape.
Any recipes are as unusual as was possible. This is NOT a "cook book" by anyone's definition. Hint: Ever had grape ketchup?
That's as much as I'll cover for now, but when the time gets closer I'll post the table of contents and some more detail.
Don't look for it from the publisher of The Grape Grower, either. The publisher will be a very talented newcomer to the business. More on THAT later, too.
